Grab a cup. Let’s chat.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you…. I’m incredibly excited to have the summer off and free time galore! I’m planning on getting lots of summer projects done around the house, such as all those things I put to the side all year. I’m also planning on researching a lot more about blogging. Even though I’ve almost been doing it a year (ah!), I still feel really new. There’s so much more to learn!

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you…. I think it’s funny that the blogging community goes gaga over these special days like National Running Day and Donut Day. I’m all for any extra excuse to run a little more or eat certain foods. It’s just funny I never heard of these special days before life as a blogger.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you…. My dad and I presented $1,000 scholarships to two high school seniors from the money we raised at Miles for Mary Jo last year. I went back to my high school (it had been 9 years!) to present the scholarships. It was incredibly rewarding to know we are helping alleviate some of the cost of college. I’m confident we picked two great girls who will achieve their dreams. My mom would be in absolute disbelief we’ve established a scholarship in her name. She was always the one to think of herself last.

Ultimate Coffee Date Link Up 3If we were having coffee, I’d tell you…. people find my blog with some interesting search terms. Some of them make me think, “when did I write about that?” Others make me think, “what the heck are they searching for!?” Unfortunately I can only see searches for search engines other than Google (boo). Some of the funniest are “big butts” and “shark tank larabars”. Surprisingly, I used a quote from Robert Herjavec, “a goal without a timeline is simply a dream,” and that has been one of my biggest refers! My husband likes to trick me by putting in fake search terms like, “is Nikki from grab your kicks single?” Oh that man.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you…. half marathon training is starting again. Compared to my last half marathon in May, I’ll have much more time to prepare throughout the summer and not have to worry so much about the weather. Last year’s training went really well and I felt very prepared come race day. This will be half marathon #4! Anyone racing this one?

Ultimate Coffee Date Link Up 3If we were having coffee, I’d tell you…. my next fitness adventure will be trail running! Some of the trails in my area are just too pretty not to explore. I love the different challenge of running with elevation changes, rocks/trees (crossing my fingers I don’t trip too many times), and really being out in nature. I’m going to look for a trail run this summer too.

Ultimate Coffee Date Link Up 3If we were having coffee, I’d tell you…. I’m learning real life lessons all the time. One of the biggest things I’ve learned in my late 20s is that I will never change the views of some people. As much as I can rationalize my thinking and ideas, there’s no changing the way someone else thinks. I know that’s okay. Even though they think differently than me, I understand that doesn’t mean they’re wrong or right; just different. I’m more accepting of that now.

Thanks for joining me today! Make sure to visit Jill & Lynda, link up, and get to know some new bloggers. If we don’t chat again until next month, good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight. ;)

What are your plans for summer? What’s your newest fitness venture?

  1. Nice on the scholarship! I am sure that makes a big difference to people – and hopefully they will pay it forward too. I am not sure about National Running Day, but National Donut Day made the news — maybe because donut shops were giving away free donuts.

    • I guess free donuts is news. :) Hoping the scholarship is going to girls who will use it wisely. It feels good to pay it forward myself!

  2. Nikki, I can’t wait to follow along with your half marathon training. I am still in the works. Trail running would be a blast, on my bucket list :) Happy Saturday

    • I’m excited for you to run your first half! I’ve been following along with your posts. :) I’m looking forward to some trail running!

  3. I also think all the special days bloggers talk about are kinda funny. Who would even know that these days existed if it weren’t for bloggers? Something to write about, I guess!

  4. I’ve always bee afraid of trail running. I think I would fall on a branch and kill myself! I never heard of Nat’l running day until this year. As part of my Ambassador duties with Rock n Roll Marathon I got to host a party so that was fun and it went really well. Nice job on the scholarships. Great catching up over coffee!

    • That sounds so cool! I don’t think they had anything like that around here for Running Day. I’m looking forward to the added challenge of not falling off the cliff at the state park close to me. ;) Builds stronger legs, right?

  5. My husband, daughter, and I will be venturing to Michigan for three weeks here at the end of the month. I am excited to go see his family and spend some time away. Still working of course but not at home brings some ease. Fitness ventures as of late, still trying to get in my 14 runs for 2014. I have already signed up for a couple in Michigan, one is a trail run! :)

  7. I love coffee dates!! That’s really cool that you were able to create a scholarship for your mom. What a wonderful way to honor her! We’re going on vacation to Catalina Island next week so my next fitness venture is going to be Stand Up Paddleboarding. I’ve been wanting to try it for a long time now and I’m excited to finally get the chance!!

    • I’ve wanted to try SUP too! There’s a duathlon in northern WI that consists of SUP and running that sounds really cool. We almost tried it in FL, but ended up kayaking instead. Have fun!!!

  8. I too think its quite funny about the national days. I didn’t know about them either before I was a blogger but see them all the time now. I saw the #HugYourCatDay on twitter and I wouldn’t have really seen it otherwise.

Thanks for hosting the linkup again! These posts are great and allow everyone to know a little more about what things are going on in other peoples lives.

    • There are! I know of some that we used to visit as a kid, but I’m sure there’s a lot more. We are luck to have a nice state park really close that has 8 miles of trails.
